Select source
As source material you can use practically any available content: directly from the Internet, video files from hard disk or DVD-videos
Download
Click on the Download button.
Select your clip from one of the supported video platforms (Youtube, Google Video, MyVideo, ClipFish, videU, iFilm, dailymotion, blip.tv, Metacafe, Sevenload and MySpace).
Copy the complete target address from the address line of the browser to the clipboard and add the URL in the downloader under Video-URL. (Depending on the platform it may be necessary to copy the address not from the browser line but from a section that was especially configured for this purpose. You usually find it under the headline Share or similar.)
Click on OK. The download module checks the target and releases the name settings if the address is correct. Enter name and target directory and click on Save.
The video clip is automatically loaded to the programming surface of the converter. If you like you can now download or insert another file.
Load file
Click on the Load file button and search for a video file from hard disk or another medium.
Open DVD
In order to convert a DVD-video click on Open DVD and search the drive with the inserted disk. The directory structure is recognized automatically.
In list view you enable the tracks you want to have converted (the track with the longest runtime is normally the main film and automatically marked).
You select the video language in the column of the same name. The same applies for the subtitles. Please note: You can only integrate one language- and one subtitle to the target video. Subtitles are ‚burnt’ into the picture and cannot be faded out when viewing the movie.
The list view
In list view all conversion projects are listed in the order they were added. If it is a Video DVD, the list comprises all tracks and chapters of the disk; it is not possible to add additional disks later. The individual columns provide drop-down-lists for the selection of the desired language and subtitles.
In the case of individual video files and downloads you can add new files to the list step by step; while converting these are loaded one by one. Again you find columns for selecting the language, although this is rarely necessary for individual files.
Info section
Below the list you find a section with the most important information about the marked source video:
- File format: shows the format of a marked video file, for DVD-videos simply DVD, for other files their containers. Please consider that one cannot necessarily draw conclusions from the used container to the actual video format. An AVI-file for example can contain – in addition to MJPEG- other video streams like MPEG-4-Xvid (though not simultaneously).
- Resolution: original resolution in width by height.
- Frame rate: the frame rate indicates the frame frequency of a video. Standard in Germany are 25 fps (frames per second), yet the frame rate of individual video files can differ considerably, e.g. from 30 fps in US-American clips via 24 fps (original movie frame rate) up to 15 fps and less (for mobile phone videos).
- DRM: informs you whether the selected file is equipped with a digital rights management.
- Bit rate: indicates the used video-bit rate. It normally applies: the higher the bit rate, the better the picture quality.
The Media player
The integrated media player is used for testing listed videos as well as for simple editing. Operating functions (from top to bottom and from left to right):
- Full screen: switches video playback to full screen mode. Return to window with a mouse click.
- Mute: enables and disables the loudspeaker.
- Stop: stops the playback.
- Rewind: jumps to the start of the video.
- Play: starts the playback.
- Forward: jumps to the end of the video.
- Marker 1: sets a start marker for editing.
- Marker 2: sets an end marker for editing.
The marked section is cut.
Settings
Split size
Via the settings button you come to an option dialog. Here you determine the split size, for instance if you want to create a video for a memory-card-based player but there is not enough storage space. Instead of creating one video with 512 MB you can create two 256 MB files.
Splitting is performed automatically, as is the assignment of file names. Many small-sized files are an option if the respective player has no fast-forward/rewind function and you would have to start a video anew after an interruption.
Target directory
Determine the default target directory.
Format
For most devices the file format to be used is fixed. Only for mobile phones you may have to select a different one. The supported formats are MP4, Standard-3GP, 3G2 for KDDI, 3GP for DoCoMo and 3GP for Japanese Vodafone. Please refer to the operating instructions for your mobile phone if you do not know the format your device requires.
Miscellaneous
To start converting click on the Start button. To abort converting click on the cross on the top right. You then come back to device selection.
